Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 6:01 AM.   Subject: Roosevelt County Query.  My husband has been told that his ggrandfather, Enoch Huse Spinks, was the first deputy sheriff in Portales.  Seems that would be Roosevelt Co, as sheriffs are usually county offices.  If you have any information, either confirming or denying this, I would appreciate getting it.   Thanks,  Jerry Thompson.    jwt@insolwwb.net

(To Jerry Thompson:  Hugh E. Spinks is listed on the Quay Co. NM census index. He was age 49, born MS.  The pricinct was Tucumcari, p. 3-a.  Jannelle Foster )

Sent: Monday, October 14, 2002 8:37 AM.   Subject: ROOSEVELT COUNTY QUERY.   LANDRETH – RYNES.

I'm looking for Mary Ellen Landreth from New Hope or Richland, New Mexico from 1907 to her death in 1917.  She is buried in the New Hope Cemetery.  I can't find her on the 1910 census.  Mary Ellen came by wagon from Allen, OK in 1906/7 with her granddaughter Ida RYNES, her daughter Laura Melvina PARKS, Mr. PARKS, and several of his children by previous marriages.    The 1910 US Census for Roosevelt County does not have a Precinct for Richland like the 1920 census.  What Precinct in the 1910 census would include the Richland and New Hope area?  Are there any maps showing these Precincts for 1910 and 1920?   Thank you so much for any help you can give me.  Deborah Hatfield.     DeborahHatfield@cox.net

(Precinct for 1910 was probably Causey; however,  Mary Ellen Landreth is not in the 1910 Census Index for Roosevelt, Curry or De Baca County.   There are several Parks listed and two with a Laura shown in them.  Harold Kilmer)

Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 10:30 PM . Subject: Roosevelt County Query. I have letters written by a Nat BRIDGES (Nathaniel S.) and from his wife Maggie Phillips BRIDGES in 1909 to their family in Georgia. They are addressed from Plateau, New Mexico. I have not been able to find a town by this name on any map but the county locator says there was a town or area by that name in Roosevelt County, NM. My question is, does anyone know what section of the census I should look through for this area? Thanks for any advice, Linda Blum-Barton. lab@boone.net

**Plateau, NM in Roosevelt County was on the AT&SF RR, 19 miles SW of Portales. Post office, 1906-10, changed to Kermit. Nathaniel; and Maggie Bridges are not in the 1910 Federal Census for NM Territory and they are not in the 1920 at Kermit. The 1920 census link on Roosevelt County.
