My Dad has a photo of him seated with several individuals standing around behind him. It says that the he was 94 when the photo was taken in Newton (Harvey County), Kansas, and that he was "now" 99 and living in Portales, (Roosevelt County), New Mexico. It also states that he was the oldest living member of the church. H.S. STOVALL, Newton, Kansas, photographer. If I knew more about Charles WHITCOMB, maybe I could find out what church, and which of my ancestors was a member with this gentleman. Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2001 7:06 PM . Subject: Roosevelt County Query . I am searching for the descendants of Mrs. Claudia Smith White, w/o Harvey White. In 1910 Claudia White resided in Kenna, New Mexico according to an obituary dated 1910 for her father James Jackson Manning Smith. Mr. Smith was my Gr Grandfather and I would like to find his daughter's family. Claudia was born in Schley County, Georgia 1-1-1867 and married Harvey E. White in Marble Falls, Texas on 1-1-1888. In 1941 or there abouts, she may have lived in Melrose, New Mexico. She had 8 children, Lela, Alvin, Elliott, Lindsay, Catherine, Leslie, Dayton and Mildred. HOOVER 1 Dec 1907 unknown place. Died Portales, Roosevelt Co NM 2 Aug 1947. Just read Roosevelt Co. queries and found name of early rancher, Hamlin HILL - coincidence? Hamblin was living in Portales in 1929 when sister ,Willie Lee HILL Talley, died in Waco TX - listed in newspaper as "brother, Hamilton HILL"- not HOOVER. Where is Hamlin buried? What happened to Jesse HOOVER. 1880 Bell Co TX census shows Hamlin to be female. Could the census taker have made a mistake? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Patricia. (In the Portales, NM cemetery is a double tombstone that reads: HILL, Hamlin, 1871 – 1947; Jessie, 1887 – no dd in 1979 when cemetery was surveyed. In the Clovis News Journal Obit Index: HILL, JESSIE PEARL, age 93, (Date of publication)DECEMBER 2, 1980.)

I am seeking anyone who knew or knew of William Robert Shook, his wife Vinnie and their children, Willard, Homer, Georgia, Lena, Allie, and Robert. They homesteaded 320 acres 1/2 way between Elida and Dora. Allie and Robert died in 1911 and were buried in the Elida cemetary. The graves have been lost for many years. Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2001 7:16 PM. Subject: Roosevelt NM QUERY. I have been told that my aunt and uncle Colonel E. Rambo and Rose Kissellburg Rambo are buried in Portales but I do not know how to find out about this. Does anyone have any ideas? Rose died March 1962 and Colonel died July 1973. George was pres. of First National Bank, and when he died Mary became President. George died in Mineral Wells, TX in 1920 and was buried in Portales Cemetery. At some point, he was removed. She was born in Texas 1883, and family lore has it that she moved to Portales to be with her daughter.after her husband Jasper died in 1943 (in Roswell). Her daughter's married name was ISAM or ISHAM. SHe's a mystery, don't know the date of death, etc, or exactly what happendedto her after Jasper died. Thank you, Ramona.

(b. 3 Jul 1875, unknown, TX d. 23 Sep 1960 Eureka Springs, Carroll, AR and buried there) was an orphan, parents unknown. Somewhere in TX, married (UNKNOWN) Sarah E. (b. abt 1881, unknown, TN d. abt 1940/41 Kenna, Roosevelt, NM and buried there). According to 1920 Federal Census of Kenna (precinct 29, last page, dated 31 Jan 1920) Roosevelt, NM, her age was 38, her father was born in TX, her mother was born in TN, and she was born in TN. Edgar & Sarah homesteaded in the vicinity of Kenna, Roosevelt, NM and had 3 daughters: 1. LEE, (unknown) (b. (unk) Kenna, Roosevelt, NM d. before 1920 Kenna, Roosevelt, NM and buried there). She died when 10 years old and is buried beside her mother. 2. LEE, Jewell E. (b. 31 Aug 1907 Kenna, Roosevelt, NM d. May 1980 Eureka Springs, AR and buried there). 3. LEE, Margaret (b. about 1922 Kenna, Roosevelt, NM d. 1982 Oklahoma City, OK and buried there). LEE, Jewell E., sometime in the late 1920's and somewhere in the vicinity of Kenna, Roosevelt, NM (according to her daughter) married: MARTIN, Ross E(stelle?) (b. 31 Aug 1901, place unknown d. 10 Sep 1956 Eureka Springs, Carroll, AR and buried there). His family may have originated or at one time lived in the vicinity of Quincy, Adams, IL and his father's name was Arthur MARTIN. How he got to and came to be in the vicinity of Kenna is unknown. There has to be some kind of info on him & his family I would think he was a farmer. His wife’s name was Ruby. If you can find anything on him I would very much appreciate it.
